What do you think of slash-and-burn-pundits like Ann Coulter and her comments on John Edwards? Do pundits further poltical discourse or just damage the side they are batting for?

They don't serve much of a purpose except to cause all the people who are on one side to cheer, "Yeah. Exactly! That's right!" while the people who are on the other side are screaming, "I can't believe this. You are an idiot!"

They do nothing to convince anyone of the (usual) garbage they are spewing. Cable and radio news have become so politically driven it's not funny and these types of shock-pundits are put on the air by special interest groups to say the things they are too scared or "politically correct" to say on air.

I used to wonder how Ann Coulter could actually go on television and say some of the completely bigoted nonsense that she does, but then I realized how much money it makes her. She's no different from Howard Stern and the likes.

I wish I could say that I was shocked, but frankly nothing that she-beast says or does shocks me anymore. I think her comments do hurt her cause with some people, but there's also a large number of neocons who feel overjoyed that someone is willing to say the things she says in public (as opposed to just calling John Edwards a f#ggot in the privacy of your own home during a cocktail party). My question is, over the last couple of months we've seen that the public at large is not OK with antisemitism and we're not OK with calling someone the n-word...why are we ok with "f#ggot"? If I were in charge of the GOP I would ask Anne to stop "helping". Being a Democrat I have to say she's very successful at making us look like the better man, that's for sure.

I just sit in utter disbelief that a self-styled intellectual conservative (if such a thing actually exists) like Ann Coulter would resort to the most grade school insult in the book while addressing a public forum (C-Span - not the conference). To call someone a "faggot" in that fashion is not even so much insulting to homosexuals or John Edwards, but to the concept of intelligent political discourse.

Nor is this the first time for her; she called Al Gore a "fag" on a news program some time back. Though I fear being labeled as a misogynist for saying so, that bitch needs a muzzle and a leash. She does her party a grave disservice almost everytime she opens her mouth.

Pundits like Ann Coulter are really just entertainers with their only concern being the sales of books. Each time Coulter insults someone it gets her name in the media and sells more books. There are plenty on the left that do this also. Personally I ignore what they say as they add nothing to valid constructive political discourse.

Coulter used to date Bob Guccione Jr, a pretty scuzzy soft core porn player. She obviously says outrageous unprovable things to bring her great notoriety to sell her books...which she does successfully, and makes a few million dollars on, but then again you probably know this by now.
Stay cool, she`s good at making people very angry and talks over everybody. In short, she`s a c**t.

"she learned her rhetoric at the knee of an an older man in the soft-porno magazine business. "

People resort to ad hominem attacks when
    (1) they have no other arguments,
    (2) when they want to distract from the real issues, and
    (3) when they are air-headed, cross eyed, poorly educated, bulimic, bleached blond, bitch-hoes who belong in the kitchen raising children.

In the past the propaganda was well hidden (as per pbs newshour), but then came Rush and everyone saw the "right" money flowing in. Cashing in is the capitalist mentality, so we see the hoarde chasing the money. Since there is no real "left" money flowing, the political discourse becomes more of a lecture. FSTV and LINK TV are the only easily found counters. Amy (yes, I love her enough to be comfortable using her first name ((Amy Goodman/DemocracyNow)))is my hero. She broadcasts from a fire station I think, in part, just to point out how we are being "hosed" by the cororate media.

I am starting to lump Ann Coulter and Bill Maher in the same category: people who like to listen to themselves speak.

Coulter and Maher have repeatedly said things that have just shocked people in their own core group. But the liberals and conservatives need the press and they need to protect the elected officials, so pundits have taken on the role of getting the harsh message out. They don't formulate ideas, they just bark soundbites and get on the air.

She can keep her mouth shut - it'll keep at least the flies out. That being said...why bother? There are a ton of people, especially women, who need to prove shit and slash-and-burn without much substance.

    Ignoring is key. :)

For the most part I like Ann Coulter. She makes mistakes, live everyone else, but overall I think she is intelligent, practical, and sincere in her beliefs. In many ways she is like a breath of fresh air. I think she is so disliked by the left because they really don't want the truth to be heard. I really don't hear a lot of howling about the leftist pundits twisting the truth to suit their agenda, and this troubles me.

People like Ann Coulter are more educated and a bit smarter than the average Joe. People tend to get mad at others who say things against their own ideology. Sometimes Ann goes a little over the edge just to get the other sides goat. Probably should stay a little more tamed down, would have more effect with those in the middle, but it gets her notoriety. People on the other side of her ideology aren't going to agree with her anyway. I think she just gets a kick out of making them look dumb. She can be a bit cold. I've never heard a liberal give her a good argument. They usually go to the lowest common denominator and call her names and throw digs. I don't know what she said about John Edwards, but he's not a very credible guy. He betrayed his wife, family and his constituents.
