I don't care for either theory. I like the practice of listening to both
Personaly I prefer classical theory but then I am a classical musician so jazz does not come naturaly to me.
I was first trained in traditional music theory, and wasn't introduced to actual jazz theory and harmony and whatnot until my Junior year of college. I'd played jazz all the way through high school and college, but being a drummer, never had to learn the details of Jazz theory. Obviously, a good understanding of traditional theory only helps when it comes to jazz (and not necessarily the other way around), but ultimately jazz theory is more logical for me. It's nice to be able to say 'flat-13', rather than have to try and explain why there's a tritone floating around using the limited, traditional terms.
