  • No, but a degree in small business or retail or hospitality (hotels) would be a bonus and allow you to run your wedding planner business more profitably. The income, as you'd read on any "how to be a wedding planner" site, ranges from $10/hour to $1000 per day -- it's the rare few that can command that fee. There are two ways to judge where to live to pursue wedding (and other event) planning clients: the big cities where most weddings happen and the high-end competition will eat you alive (NYC, LA), or the tiny-but-wealthy towns where there is little competition (La Jolla, Marin, etc.) Any one of the books in your library on this HOW TO topic, as well as the "wedding planner" magazines would tell you all this in two seconds. But ask yourself: "am I the kind of person who wants to run a 24/7 chaos business that's high-stress, seasonal, and extremely competitive? Shouldn't I read up and research and consider an internship with a profitable well-run event business before I think about moving for this difficult career?"
