I will be graduating in May after going to school for four years and now I don't want to do what I majored in. I wasn't true to myself and took what was easy. Now I have another four years to go to do what I sould have done all along. Do what you love. Try classes in everything to see which ones really make your blood boil. Forget about job markets, availability, and money. Go for what you are passionate about and you won't be dissappointed.

Lots of people pick a major in college because they need to pick something, and they go for the one that seems the easiest to them, or the least offensive! I picked one because it sounded like it could be useful, not because it was something I was particularly interested in. The problem, is that I wasn't really interested in anything! I just wanted to finish school at that point.

Luckily for me, I got a job as an intern during school, and got placed into a full time job after graduation. It's a good job, but nothing special, and nothing particularly interesting.

I have no interest in actually getting a job in the field I majored in, however, I also have no idea what I WOULD get a job in. So, I am equally screwed on that matter. (Right now, my plan is to stay in the job I have for as long as possible, or until I actually discover what it is I want to do.)

I honestly have no idea how people "know" what it is they want to do with their life... I wish I had known. I think that most of us pick something remotely interesting/useful, and go with it, then just let things happen they way they do. Some people end up with the same kind of jobs they could have had without a degree, some people go for it and get a great career. It really depends on how hard you want to work, and how much you plan your goals.

I have a friend that went to a 4 year college and after graduation found himself not being able to find employment in his field. He then went to a 2 year college and received a degree in Radiology and is now the Manager of the Radiology department at a major clinic in the town we live in.

I can't imagine spending the WHOLE 4 years and then deciding that you don't like it.
I do know that you go to college to find out what you don't like... but usually change majors before going more than 2 years...
I would suggest getting a couple interviews for jobs and listing your resume on monster.com or other job sites... see what comes back to you.
Perhaps what skills you have will bring you a job in that field, but not the straight up major that you originally planned on.
Example: Medical career, you then find out you don't want to be a doctor and don't like seeing patients etc... you could end up doing lab work, working in a pharmacy or research work.

I hated my major from the very first day , it was never what i intended as a career, chosen in a hissy fit.

I went into the profession and although it has had some very good and funny times it is not where i wish to stay.

I intend to make a change this year
