Cried, yelled, ran away, stood my ground, learned how to smile even when I'm being hated for no reason.

Yes. At least twice I have been physically assaulted by black people merely because I was white and there.

Basically, what I did was get my ass kicked.

Racist situations don't work the same way where I live. There's a tangable racist feeling in the air, if you know what I mean. It's subdued and nobody talks about it, but it's there. It makes itself known when something like what happened earlier this year occurs. Some girl posted something racist towards black people on myspace, so more or less every black person wanted to kill her. And, of course, some kid brought a gun to school. Ahhh, sweet racism...never ceases to amaze me how little we've really evolved.

oh yes. it has happened to me many times. I grew up in Australia, but by an accident, was born in england (Aussie mum, NZ father). At the time I was at school, there was a very anti-British migrant feeling in the area, and there was a hostel nearby. Because I was born in England, I was lumped in with the rest of the migrants, and experienced the hatred they did. It changed me and gave me a sympathy for outsiders. I married a Italo-German born in Australia, who had had similar experiences as a child. since taking his surname, I have frequently been the butt of anti-Italian feeling (not present in Australia any more, but at the time we married, yes). Also, I speak Indonesian fluently, and have lots of Indonesian friends. I have got the anti-Asian thing too, and been verbally assaulted on trains for speaking Indonesian. When it happens to someone else, I jump in, because I do not want others to suffer at the hands of cruel jibes or worse.

Many times, and I have acted differently depending on the specifics of the situation.

Sometimes I walk away, sometimes I debate, sometimes I defend my friends... so far I have not experienced anything that I have felt that I need to report to the authorities.

Try to convince each side that color does not matter. its whats inside their heart that counts.

We all were born a different skin color. we all were born hungry, starved for love, and breathing the same air.

99.9% of this type of situation can be resolved with one word.......communication.

When people stop talking to each, the trouble begins.

  • Yeah, many times. The one I remember the most was when some girl told me to "shut your little white-ass mouth up," and I just sort of sat there like a stump.

I have and I told them exactly what I thought of them. To me standing by and saying nothing is like a silent agreement that you fell that way too. If more people spoke up this would happen a hell of a lot less.

As a service station attendant I have to put up with lot of it. I usually make life harder for them so they actually come and talk to my manager at which point I can put my case to my manager.

Yes. I beat the person up. (I am not lying, it's not funny. People these days are very rude against cultures, when really they should have respect for all of them.)

Yes...there is a lot of racial animosity in Atlanta, in my opinion.

Ive never actually seen violence up front, but i hear it ALL the time. It's quite sad we share a city together, and different races cant just get along.

  • Many times. Where i live, there is a lot of it going on, especailly shopkeepers and salespeople. I just dont buy, or insist that they show me the entire range and then dont buy... and once i just stood there helpless with a tight ball of anger inside me, but couldnt do anything. If u r in their country, sometimes u live with it.

generally i only hear of racist things on the tv and they make big deals over the small things on tv and never bother showing the big problems of people getting beaten up or even killed or fired or things like that. rather they generally are all complaining about this that and the other thing some guy said and then they demand that he apologize and then get fired. they know his apology is not going to be heart felt but they still want it like it does something to mend their feelings. there is so much pretend caring on the television and radio that i sometimes find it hard to care. I do care about doing away with racism but at the same time I do my best to remember that men and women and asians and australians are all different. I try to fight against people who want to change that and make us all the same. They think that racism ends only when everybody is colorblind or something. racism ends never just like prejudice of all sorts will never end. But having quotas for how many of each race gets into each college is not the way. that practice is racist and unfair. if some aspiring young smart black person were to apply for a college and not get in because they had already met their quota for black people everybody would agree that that is wrong. if some white person who happens to be an idiot and hasnt done anything with himself in life applies for that same college and is accepted because they havent accepted enough whites yet then I bet it would be just as widely accepted as a racist act. if the first person was mexican and the second person asian it wouldnt make much difference it would still be wrong. if the first person was white and the second black meaning the rolls are exactly reversed I would hope that everybody realizes that it is still wrong. no matter what race combination you add into the situation it is still wrong
if a black man who owns a bike shop somewhere in town has two black applicants and one white applicant and the one black guy knows his stuff about bikes and the second guy doesnt know as much but almost as much and the white guy thinks hes applying for a waiters job, it would be dumb of him to decide to hire the white person just because he doesnt want to seem racist. if he did he would have an idiot working for him who he cant fire for the same reason he chose to hire him. this problem puts a lot of business owners in bad situations. I think the entire world needs to look at racism, take a step back and then decide whether what we are doing now to stop racism isnt in fact fueling it for the future. then we all need to pretend there is a new race. and these humans happen to be blue toned skin and make up aproxomitely 3% of the population. i'd say at this point there would be tons of people who hated blues.
