Help answer this question below.
Melatonin. For me at least.
exodrine pm,
My recommendation: don't rely on sleeping pills. They can easily become an addiction.
Coming from someone who definatly understands sleep problems. I must say, taking any pills that are not herbal will clog up your bowels over time. Almost all sleeping pills have antihistamine in them and this is what causes problems if taken regularly. With this being said, it is ok to take benidryl every once in awhile to knock you out but it's not something you should do long term. Other suggestions up here like aroma therapy, excerising before bed should also be tried as well as watching what you eat before bed. Don't drink caffeine after 3pm. Keep your sugar intake to a minimum. You can google foods for sleep and find a good amount of food that is supposed to help your body relax.
Good Luck!!!
I've tried everything I could get my hands on for several years and the only thing I've found that always works for me...Childrens Triamenic nighttime cough and cold...Lol...This stuff knocks me right out...I don't know why it works so well for me but I'm not about to question it...
I had insomnia for many years and the sleeping pills really hurt me in time.
A friend suggested I try aromatherapy.
This is what I did: I bought an oil diffuser from the dollar store and Vanilla home fragrance oil from The Body Shop. (about $7)
Put water and a couple drops of oil in the diffuser and lit it 20 minutes before I went to bed. Also put a towel under the door so the heat and fragrance would not escape.
Worked like a charm - I do this frequently now.
Almost every OTC (over the counter) sleeping pill is one of two different anti-histamines. See:

Excedrin has many different formulas, but would suggest specifically Excedrin Migraine--here is a link to the website:

Hugs, sleep well...
I have been taking 3mg of melatonin at night an hour before bedtime. It is not a sleeping pill per se, but has this as a side benefit - and it has made a difference for me. It is also very inexpensive.
GO TO SLEEP ONLY WHEN YOU'RE TIRED, AND IF YOU DON'T FALL ASLEEP WITHIN ABOUT 15 MINUTES, GET OUT OF BED.
ACCORDING TO MY AP PSYCHOLOGY BOOK, THIS CAN TRAIN YOU TO FALL ASLEEP EASIER AND WORKS BETTER THAN PILLS.
Old Milwaukee
Benadryl

you could do some exercises before bedding down, like a situp or a push up or a jumping jack or two. then you will be really tired and will sleep quickly.
Depends on the reason--but for me, being a girl as I am....I like a combination of 3 Pamprins plus 2 Excedrin Migraines...unless, of course, I have the luxury of drinking myself senseless...lol....poor, poor liver....menopause sucks, lol...
If you read the active ingredients, they are all precisely the same strength of diphenhydramine. Benedryl is too. So just get whichever one is cheapest. The generics are the same too.
Sominex used to have a different ingredient, but I haven't seen that in several years now.
You can take psyproheptadin 20 mg 15minutes before bed time.
You want to sleep, Take some Benadryl. Two of those and your out like a light.
try exercising more, and eating better in the afternoon
I have no problem in this field. I just think of a beautiful vacation spot where I want to be. Such as on a beach , up on the Colorado mountains, or some other joyful place. Then I'm soon up there on a floating cloud, sawing wood.
you can take a lot of kava kava or make a tea out of about 20 grams of passion flower both these things can be bought on ebay
If I were you i woudln't even mess with taking meds to sleep cause you don't really know the cause of your insomnia so to speak. I'd talk to your doctor about it and go from there. There are alot of non presciption pills out that can do more harm than good. Be safe don't take something unless you really know what your taking and what your taking it for.
Benadryl, an antihistamine w/ sedating side-effect.
;-)
Tylenol PM works pretty well for me.

Me as well. Since my system adapts quickly to medicines, I tend to use 9-12mg at night. Most other people I know that take it use 3-5mg.
