  • I once reported what I thought was a rape...mine. Turns out the group of kids just knocked me out with a rock for not being patriotic enough or something, I can't really remember what I did to them. But as paranoid and self-centered as I am, I was convinced that I was raped while unconscious.
  • Of course. I saw this kid on the floor hurt due to a fall of his skateboard. It was anonymous.
  • yep wen i was kid for knowing what happens...
  • Once by accident. I was working part time at a gas station years ago and had someone drive off. (did not pay) I was so stunned by it that I picked up the phone and dialed 911! realizing the error of my ways - that this wasn't a true emergency- I hung up. Well of course they called back and I had the embarrassing job of explaining my faux pas. a couple of times after that to report someone in distress.

  • An upstairs neighbor like young (legal, but young) boys. Young boys like cash... One of the young boys decided he was just gonna take the cash and beat the hell outa my neighbor. I heard enough and called 911. My neighbor survived. He didn't learn. Some people never do.
  • My best friend and her friend did when her parents weren't home. My friend katie and her friend courtney were playing and jumping around the house and then katie got the telephone and pushed in 911 and then hit the send/talk/etc button! Then they hung up real quick. And we all know what happens next right? The cops came to her house. And right after katie's MOTHER pulls in the drive way to see the cops talking to the girls and they are crying! What a story!
  • Yes, twice. Both times at work. Years ago a customer had a heart attack in the store I worked in. The second time was just a few months ago. A woman fell in the street in front of my store and broke her knee, she wanted an ambulance.
  • Yes, several times, when my mother got bad the last year of her life. She had some cardiac issues and hypoglycemia (because she wouldn't eat properly). A few times I found her collapsed on the floor when I came home from work. Once she was in the downstairs bathroom and fell against the door and the paramedics couldn't open it, so they had to take out the bathroom window and crawl through it. The day I found her dead, I also called.
  • Oh yes! Never because I needed them though! Once about a year ago, when I was working at a daycare, I accidently pressed the 9 button while it was in my pocket. Next thing I know I hear this voice coming from my pocket saying " Please state your emergency". I hung up as fast as I could! Luckily the police never came, my boss would have killed me!
  • If you work in an office where you must dial 9 to get an outside line, and then 1 before a long distance call, you will understand why the Police will call when they get a "hang up 911". Someone in my office will do this and then the Police will call me and I have to ask the other folks "did anyone accidentally dial 911?".
  • I did once when I was on the road and passed an accident with a motorcycle in the opposite direction. The operator said yes we got that call already thank you
  • Many, many times.
  • Yep. I called once for a fire, once when my daughter fell head-first onto a tile floor (she was okay, and didn't need the trip to the hospital, but I panicked) and once when a friend started having a severe asthma attack and asked me to call. I'm sure given more years in my life, I'll call more times.
  • Once when my son fell off the pool slide, and twice when a family member had a severe pain that turned out to be gallstones.
  • My mom was trying to call my sister one February morning to tell her of my aunt's passing. That was when the doorbell rang and when I answered it there was a police officer at the door asking if anyone had called emergency. She had a sense of humor saying she didn't come all the way out to say Good Morning. But my mom explained saying she must have dialed 911 when she meant to dial the area code for westchester county in NY. The officer understood and said so long as everything was alright.
  • Just once and that was to test our phone system to ensure that users could dial 911 directly or use out the outside number and 911 ( e.g. dial 8 to get an outside line and then dial 911). I called the police first to tell them I wanted to test this so that 911 would know I was calling and know it was not an actual emergency.

Hopefully i will not havw to call 911 ever again
  • Yes, a few times. I have called for noise disturbances in the wee hours of the morning if my neighbors have been partying to the point where I want to kill someone. I try to just grin and bear it but sometimes it is too much. I also called whenever it sounded like there was an assault going on in the apartment upstairs of mine in Maryland. This was the apartment of a drug dealer and I later learned out that there were multiple rapes up there.

  • The last time I called 911 was to report a truck on fire in the parking lot across the fire station. It was busy.
  • Yes, I was on the freeway and passed a truck that was upsidedown on the side of the road. Also, a garbage truck once caught fire across the street from my work and exploded. It was pretty crazy.
  • I've called 911 three times with what I thought were emergency situations: 1. I thought I heard either fireworks or gunfire across the street from me. I wasn't sure so I called 911 to send a unit and they did. 2. Another time a car across the other street (I live on a corner) caught fire and blew up. I called and the Fire Dept. sent out a truck. By the time they arrived the fire was almost out. 3. I saw an accident happen on the freeway ahead of me so I pulled over and called 911 on my cell. All circuits were busy or in phone company parlance, APB or 120 IPM. I used to work in a data- and voice-processing maintenance area (AKA switchroom) for AT&T. I had hard and soft access to all landlines and interoffice circuits (trunks) for about 100,000 users. We could post any circuit and/or phone line and monitor it. I had some spare time so I started monitoring some 911 trunks (circuits connecting phone lines to 911 emegency operator positions) just to see how many of the calls were true emergencies. I found one trunk that had a prank call on it so I traced it to a pay phone. Sure enough some dysfunctional jerks were making prank 911 calls from that phone so I took it out of service, i.e. I took away the dial tone so that nobody could make any outgoing calls from that line. I left it that way for about 2 minutes which was too long for the infinitesimal limits of their attention spans.

  • Yes. Witnessed a car wreck, where a man lost control and hit a palm tree. Another wreck, where I saw a car in my rear-view-mirror slam into the guard rail, during a rainstorm. Another time, I saw a woman in her car, stuck on some railroad tracks.
  • The last time was when some guy in the woods by my house was screaming that he had a broken leg. We called 911 then me and my roommate went out and looked for him. Turned out to be a hoax The highways near here are pretty curvy and the weather sucks, so there's a lot of accidents, we've called a couple times when people flip or crash or go off the road When I was a kid, my uncle had some kind of seizure, it was just me and him in the house
  • My mother would always push redial on my phone and hassle my friends to see if I really went to their house. So one day I dialed "911" but hung up before it went through. Later I came home, and my mom was all smiling and asking why I called "911", and needless to say I busted her : )

  • I have called 911 so many times, i work in a seniors home so whenever anyone needs an ambulance I call, also I volunteer on a regular basis for a medical assistance group, and when serious enough, like someone falling down stairs, we have to call 911. After about the first 5 times the adrenaline u get from just dialing it wears off and you get use to the questions and stay super calm
  • Nope...its best that way I suppose
