Help answer this question below.
Because despite the pretended nonsense of the day, homosexuality is a move of 'choice', not a predisposed biological must.
Secondly, pastors refusing to marry on moral/religious grounds are likely to be charged.
Third and most important is the potential legal adoption of innocent children deliberately into a despicable circumstance.
Let the adults choose as they may, but we certainly can't legalize innocent children to their ways.
Good question Ninja +5.
Okay first off, I'm a Christian and I am gay. You seem like an open minded person, so you must realize that there is such a thing as a gay Christian. Some people honestly believe there is no such thing. Stupid.
Anyway...I think it's pretty stupid and ridiculous how conservatives argue against gay marriage. They say it will make their marriage mean less. What they conveniently forget, however, is that gay marriage is already legal in Canada, the UK, and many other places. If it will affect your marriage, it already would have.
A lot of it has to do with 'tradition'. They are the people who say you shouldn't try new things, that you should always do things how they have always been done. It's absolutely pointless and makes no sense logically.
A lot of them also believe that homosexuality is a new threat to society. They shoot themselves in the foot, and destroy the little credibility they have when they say this. Anyone who claims to know the Bible would know that Caine was gay. Not only was he in a book written thousands of years ago, but he was one of the first people on earth. A literal child of Adam and Eve. So the claim that homosexuality is a new threat holds no water. After all, there were whole cities in the Bible populated with homosexuals.
Most likely they believe that if it were legal, a pastor wouldn't be allowed to refuse to perform the ceremony and would be charged with some kind of criminal offense.
Because God's Word states we should attempt to overturn every stronghold that seeks to set itself up against the knowledge of God. (See 2Corinthians 10:4-6)

Christians are also supposed to be a watchman to the nations (see Ezekiel 3:17-21)

You're reading Christians of various denominations: God never said 'Formalized homosexuality is way worse than informal homosexuality!' Homosexuals will be homosexual, whether they choose it or not, and whether it is formalized. So why do you keep arguing marriage?
Comments
So lets put the adoption issue to the side for now: What if a law legalizing the marriages would have a provender for pastors/churches to retain the right to refuse marriage? Would this be an acceptable compromise?

The problem with concessions is the little by little principle, and Remember: Rome wasn't built in a Day, you know!
Nations do not topple in a day either - they decay bit by bit.

Oh dear... Let me ask you this: Did you notice that I pointed out that gays will be gay whether or not it is a choice? (I for one think it is, but can;t say as I am not homosexual enough to know). So, to move on to your second point: I provided an allowance for it. We have put the third point aside for now. Would you like to elaborate on how Christians acknowledging that God never told them to fight this (as I mentioned above) through a legal system is a bad thing? And my second query for you: How will homosexuality destroy any nation? And if this isn't something we should be fighting (indeed, as I mentioned let us assume that any law passed would provide for religious people to still practice as they would in regards to homosexuality) then why do you think it a concession? Lol I know that was a lot in poor order but try to roll with me. Break it down with bullet-points if you need to.

Let me just check, NinjaMan, because you are one of the very few who sounds like you might be genuine - at least, so far.
I have given some reasonably comprehensive answer to a slightly similar Q to this today; so I'll go dig up the thread for you ... then I need to get ready for my family.LOL

Right o'. And I am genuine, at least so far as I know... Hope you have a good argument, and then I can go back to believe as I did before I thought about it...
