You should receive your insurance card by mail in approximately 2 weeks, the same time that you should receive your policy paperwork. It usually goes into affect midnight of the following day, if you have prior insurance ending that night at 11:59. If you need it sooner, be sure to state that, so that it goes into affect immediately. With most insurance companies, they can either print you out a temporary card at the office, or you can go online and print out a temporary card until you receive your paperwork/card. If you have a fax, then that is an option, also. BE SURE THAT YOUR INSURANCE PROVIDER EXPLAINS WHAT EVERY COVERAGE OPTION IS, AND THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT!!! Sometimes you can purchase options for as little as $3.00/month (say, roadside assistance). If not told of how inexpensive this is, you automatically say that you don't want it! Med pay is also great!
