That can often happen when one is still groggy from lack of sleep. In fact I beleave, in your half awake state you confused volume with mass. Next time, when measuring the water, use a sensitive balance to 'weigh' the water. It would be a good idea to adjust the balance for proper coffee, turn up the bass on the left channell. You should now be able to wake up and see the coffee.
