Diesel-electric will do, keithold. ;-)

What's the difference if you're not driving?
-
I have no preference for the technology that provides the locomotion but would love a train ride cross the continental U.S.
-
I think it'd be really cool.
-
Makes the steampunk in me happy. I've done it. Would do it again.
-
well yes and no. When I started taking train trips, steam was common for long haul and freight. I've travelled from London to Edinburgh by steam several times, and then on to St Andrews in a smelly diesel railcar. More recently I did ride on a restored steam train somewhere near Bristol where my sister and husband are members and training to be fireman and engine drivers.

I have had plenty of steam train trips during my younger days. Now they have become a sort of rarity. Only a few heritage trains are running on steam power. Still I am game for a ride in one of those.

Yes. Actually I have been, but not for a long ride from state to state. My husband loves trains. He took me on a Midnight dinner train ride that was excellent and very memorable for one of our anniversaries. 2 couples got engaged during the ride!
-
Oh yeah! That would be cool!
-
Yeah. I wouldnt mind a short trip on one.Especialy the open air type such as puffing billy wicth you probably would be familiar with. You still see the odd iron horse around usually for display only purposes. We used to play on them when we were kids.: )
-
I think I would enjoy that.

Yeah, it was cold and miserable, and the driver wouldn't stop it with the horn.
