I thought it was illegal in everyone of them, if the other person was'nt told that the conversation was being recorded.

I only know for a certainty that in the state of Virginia, you can audiotape conversations as long as at least one person is aware (that person being you!) and the person you're taping does not have to know in order for it to be legal. But, you can only use the information you receive for legal purposes. Videotaping, however, is considered voyerism here, so all parties have to be aware before it occurs, but you do not need their permission, only their notification.
