I am renting a home and was never given a copy of the HOA rules and regulations. Can I be held resposible for violating one of them?

    Technically, any violations that you commit will be "credited" to the owner. It was the owner that agreed to the rules, not you. You are the third party.

    Your rental agreement may refer to keeping the HOA rules and you being responsible for the fines, but without the rules you could argue ignorance for minor rule violations.

    You should have been given a copy of the rules with the rental agreement. Most HOAs target renters because they are not invested in the neighborhood and commit more violations per capita than owners.

    The HOA may charge for providing a copy of the rules, if so make your landlord pay the fee.

    In a court of law, more than likely not. It is, however, frowned upon if you do not request a copy of the rules.
