I am a guitarist. I have trouble playing my powerchords. Instead of using my index and ring finger, I use the index and pinkie. Any tips on how to play better with the ideal fingering?

It might help to start doing finger stretches. You can't do a split the first time you try right? You have to work up to it slowly and before you know it your hand will look like a spider flying across your fretboard.

I am a guitarist too, and my best advice to you is practice. Practice will improve almost anything in guitar.

I had trouble picking up and down and then I practiced it and now I perfected it.

I would just say to play the way you feel most comfortable, although I don't know how you could play power chords that way! If it bothers you and you want to play with your index and ring fingers, just keep practising that way.
