You're reading My driving permit is going to expire soon, and in the almost year that I've had it, I rarely get to drive. When I do, I do really well most of the time. My mom just gets mad when I ask to drive, how can I reason with her that I really need the practice?
Comments
I rarely see my aunt and uncle, and my grandparents usually don't let me drive either, but they're on vacation for the next few weeks so it doesn't matter anyway. I need to learn how to drive in bad and good conditions. Like today, it rained, and my mom refused to let me drive. She didn't give a reason why - she never does. I seriously need to get my license soon - and I'm not just saying that as a freedom-seeking teen. I'm involved with so many activities during both the summer and the school year that it's too time consuming to have my mom drive me everywhere (not to mention it's getting a little embarrassing when all my friends drive themselves). I think she's just too overprotective, I know she wants the best for me but this is something I need to start doing! She can drive me around until college, but not after that. She refuses to talk to me about this and whenever I bring it up she just gets mad and won't answer me.

It sounds like she has issues of her own, which is not helping you. You could explain your situation to one of your teachers at school and they might be able to help you after school hours. The alternative is to go to your mom and tell her that if she doesn't let you drive, then she needs to arrange for you to have private lessons so that you can learn to drive on your own.
