In general I think really smart people are modest and unpretentious..it's the Wannabes who aren't any of those things. Do you think so too?

Yes, know-it-alls are in it just for attention while true intelligence doesn't expect recognition for every bit of knowledge

I totally agree, Rosie. Highly intelligent people are usually very modest and unpretentious. The Wannabes have to wave a flag and let people know their attributes to try to dominate and overcome and simply say 'I'm it. Look at me'!:)

The Wannabes are sometimes just trying to convince themselves and others that they are smart ... smart people are smart enough to know they don't have to prove it to anyone!!

The same holds true with any number of other public professions (musicians, athletes). The ones that are second-best are always compensating and trying to be noticed. Meanwhile the ones that actually are the best know they don't need to act up out of their element.

yes. from my experience, I was walking on our street when a depressed lady picked up a knife in front of her home and was swishing the knife towards me, I didn't mind her, but I was alarmed deep inside. when I got back home I told my (arrogant and showy) cousin about it and he said, No Margaux, don't mind her, she is just showing off but she can never have the nerve of anything to hurt you, she's just a show off. thinking it takes one to know one, then I knew. that person felt inferior ever since childhood and the only things that makes him/her strong is their money or other material things he can show off. they don't know how to prove themselves more with either talents or smarts. they don't want to be looked down so they blind you with bling-blings instead. poor upbringing sad to say. may have lived on a poor or shallow community

I know what you're saying, but there are some smart posers about. I hate it though. I can't stand vanity and selfishness. I normally find they go hand in hand.
