Oh yeah. Up here (kinda) near Seattle, they're pretty common, I've taken the Washington State Ferries to San Juan Island, Bremerton, and Anacortes. Pretty convenient if you live around a BUNCH of islands.

Many times. I've taken them in the Pacific Northwest, all around the Vancouver area, the San Juan's, up in the Yukon, Washington, and Lake Champlain between NY and Vermont.

I have taken a ferry from Houston to the Bolivar Peninsula and one from Edmonds, WA to Kingston, WA (across Puget Sound)

One of my most memorable trips has been the ferry ride from the City of Vancouver to Vancouver Island. The ride goes through Puget Sound and passes many beautiful, heavily wooded islands.

A number of times on the Port Bolivar, TX to Glaveston, TX ferry-free! Most memorable, probably hydrofoil from Buenas Aires, Argentina to Colonia de Santiago, Uraguay.
