They are an invasive species and as ridiculous as it sounds, your ONE little turtle can wreak absolute havok on all the plant and animal life there.
There are so many other options. There are reptile rescues, you can give it to a pet store or even put an ad on craigslist to find it a new home.
please do the right thing and don't release it into the wild.
