There are 100's of reasons a code would come on. Any self respecting garage will read the code for you and give you an estimate beforehand what its going to cost. There could be something wrong that causes more damage by using the car. Get the car scanned as soon as possible, it only takes a few minutes. Jetta's are notorious for being expensive to fix. Good luck.
Get engine light checked. Codes will point the way to the problem. No need for guessing.
