  • I love it Brian, an answer poses another question. It was for me, I married my first Demon in that year and had 10 mortifying years of hell. :o)
  • I wasn't alive then, but it seems every year in the US was a bad year up until people finally started getting more civil rights.
  • No it was a very good year, the year I graduated from high school, got engaged, prepared for marriage. I loved it!
  • Nixon was re-elected by every state except mine (Mass). Many would consider that bad.
  • It was the first year that the phrase: "war on drugs" was first formally mentioned by Richard Nixon in his September 22nd "Statement About Drug Abuse Law Enforcement". Apparently, it was an inadvertent remark at the end of his statement in which he says: "I have asked the Attorney General to launch a full and immediate investigation into this phase of the war on drugs. As soon as he presents his findings, I shall do whatever is necessary to halt this dangerous permissive trend." In January of that year, Nixon coined the term "war on drug abuse". Even though Nixon never mentioned the "war on drugs again" (WOD), the phrase was picked up by Ford... overused by Reagan and every president thereafter including Obama, and has resulted in a desperate situation today in which it has weakened every part of our society from healthcare, education, criminal justice... to foreign relations and the economy... 1972 was a glorious year but the impetus to a perepetuating state of fear that has cost many lives not just from the increasing number of drug overdoses but from the SWAT raids, battles between drug cartels and law enforcement, suicide, impurities in illicit street drugs... proving that fear and ignorance are the forces that could very well topple the U.S. Government unless the war is ended and a better solution to end drug abuse is applied. One possibilty is here: (http://www.DrugUseEducation.org). Just think of it this way: 1972 might be considered one day as the beginning of the end. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
