Is it legal for a postal employee to open my mail if I am not a prisoner & I am not a letter bomber or terrorist? If so, what gives them the right to do so if I or my package pose no harm 2 anyone & is being sent within the UNITED STATES of AMERICA?

They have to have reasonable cause. They can xray the package and if it seems abnormal, can get the authority to open it. Granted this is not just the letter carrier, this is the postmaster general or higher.

Technically, yes. They are a part of the US government and therefore are entitled to do whatever they damn well please if they can make even the flimsiest argument that it might possibly be connected to something that is connected to terrorism.

    Thank you Patriot act!
