  • That really is a tricky subject. If it were possible to properly block all child porn, that would be a very good use for it. The problem is where does the censorship stop. I don't want to end up with things blocked just because some guy in charge of adding things to the list doesn't like something. Keep in mind that if blocking adult material from children is the purpose, there are already free programs you can get that do this.
  • I watched a talk on the future of the internet and the logical conclusion was a pay per site internet with all isp companys charging you to surf a list of your favourite websites this way all the illegal and nasty stuff is snuffed out this could be law in 2 or 3 years so they are trying to turn the internet into sky channels for surfing the google talks on you tube is where this is proposed a talk called "the future of the internet with vint surf".also cloud computing is where we could be heading also.the link to the google talks which i have added herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAsb4gtEpaw
  • No. Who would do the censoring? If the GOP does the censoring, then anybody who follows non-Judeo-Christian beliefs, homosexuals, and anybody more Liberal than tthe Third Reich will have their sites blocked. If you let the Muslims or North Korea censor it, OH MY! And what about content that is legal in some places but not others? Or the problems we would have with the First Amendment here in the US? Last I checked, the only content we really censored here was that that was BLATANTLY illegal according to US Federal law (like child porn, snuff art...), but even then it is less about site-blocking and more about catching the people who go after that sort of stuff on the assumption that they have committed other criminal acts, so I don't really consider that "censorship". Of course, under GW's regime, researching Islam could have been seen as treason, but I digress. The point is that you really CAN'T censor a global medium like the 'net. There are too many standards.
  • It already is, just move to China.
  • Isn't it already? Don't you think that they're monitoring anything you say here and anywhere else and that the second you overstep your bounds, the men in black will be knocking at your door and awarding you a free vacation in Guantanamo Resort courtesy of the feds?
  • Of course not...You Censor things on your end, like deciding what site to go too and what site to not go too and you apply that to your children as well...
  • You mean it isn't already?
  • simple answer is NO!!
  • No, absolutely not. I'm not at all speaking or thinking of human rights or even freedom of speech. Programs maybe should be made and sites taged so adult content can be restricted to adults. It's that I want to know what people are thinking in thier own homes safe in the glow of thier lamp, I want to be reminded of the stupidity, ignorance, bigotry that usually do not come up in polite conversation. I'm not a cynic and the bad I encounter is balanced by the good in the people here and in my life outside this office, and for one thing it spurs me to continue to stive to be a better human being.
  • No, it's called the world 'wide' web not the world 'blocked' web...
  • First they censored literature Then they censored newspapers Then they censored radio Then they censored tv They will unfortunately, but inevitably censor the net ...why would I wish for another freedom to be taken away any faster than it already is?
