Oh that is so sad! They are monogamous and will stay with the same mate until one dies, after that the remaining dove will seek another... so hopefully there will be loved up coos again soon!!

We have several pairs of doves come to our garden, its like they are joined at the hip with their mates. Cute.

Mating for life means they stay with that mate until it dies, but then they find another one. So yes, pigeons and doves do stay together for life but they often mate with others and will willingly accept a new mate.

Yes, they mate for life. Doves are called "Love Birds" for a reason. They sit on a telephone line and kiss and kiss for half an hour. That's what we observed.....But the one which lost the mate will find another. I think ( when I right remember) that the exact name is mourning dove - with an u - because their cry sounds so sad.

Yes, the mate for life, but you can now find a new mate for your dove. Please tell me your doves are not to fly around outside. You must have them in an enclosed aviary that is sheltered on one side so they can hide from predators. Ringneck Doves should never be alowed to fly around free. They can not protect themself from any predators. They have been bred as pets for some 3000 years.

Actually, they will stay with a mate for life, but they will cheat. So a widow or widower might still have offspring. And a male might come on to a female and mate. It is hard for a widowed dove to raise children, however, because they are programmed that a dad will sit on the nest all day and the female at night. If there is no "husband" around, the nest might sit empty during the day, allowing the eggs to either die from temperature fluctuations or be snacks for predators (morning doves make some of the worst nests in the entire bird-world).

We have had morning doves nesting outside our apartment (in hanging baskets that I now want to be nests) for a couple years.

Morning doves can begin nesting in April and continue through September. Up to six clutches a year, with 1-2 eggs per clutch. The male watches the nest in the day, the female at night. It takes a week or so for the eggs to hatch, and a week to get the chicks to fly, and another week to get them out of the nest.

Morning doves are some of the fastest birds in the air. They make lousy nests and make up for it by having a lot of chicks spread out over the summer.

A dove missing a mate can still attract a new partner if there are eligible mates unattached.
