Should High School students be encouraged to participate in, or allowed to host, beauty pageants in school? I am surprised to see this happens.

I helped host a "Junior Miss" pageant in high school that was sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club. I think this was better than most pageants since one of the judging criteria was academic performance, and another was grace and poise (in other words, not just "beauty" and "talent"). So, it does help build organizational skills, and as long as these additional traits are being encouraged, I don't see a lot wrong with it.

why not? sure limits could be put on it, but why not, that be cool!

In the traditional sense, I think they are rather silly. I sort of like the idea of "academic" beauty pageants though.
