It will stop charging once it's full. The power management in those things is smart enough to avoid over-charging.
As for long-term damage, you damage it more by using it than by charging it. The amp-rates (and thus temperatures) are higher, and temperature has more of an effect on the lifespan of a LiON battery than anything else.
It can sometimes be hard on the battery to do that constantly but once in a while shouldn't harm it too much if at all.
Do you need a coaxial cable with HDMI?
