My thyorid was "killed" and now I have to take medicine in place of it. Do you know how long it will take for me to feel better and is it normal to be hot one min. and cold the next? What do I have to look forward too? Thank you to anyone who helps me!

1) You could have some long term issues about hormone regulation. Maybe psychological assistance could make sense.

2) "After any operation you need time for your body to recover and your wound to heal. You should not lift any heavy objects for about 2 weeks after your operation for thyroid cancer to avoid any strain on your neck wound. Most people are able to return to work 2 weeks after their operation. But this will depend on how strenuous your work is.

Be patient with yourself and do not expect to recover overnight. If you are worried about anything, let your doctor know. After a few weeks, any stiffness in your neck and shoulder will be much better. There are a number of possible problems you might have after thyroid surgery. You may

Have a hoarse voice
Need calcium replacement because a gland called the parathyroid has been removed
Need thyroid hormone replacement because your thyroid has been completely removed
Have swelling, numbness and soreness after your operation and need a soft diet
Get an infection in your wound"
