He was known for his work as a cartoonist. He worked for Stanard Oil's ad department and even created animated training movies for recruits during WWII (introducing Private Snafu). He even contributed to two Academy Award winning films at the time, although original copies are unknown. He also contributed to several popular magazines. His books came much later in his career.
