Rain sensing windshield wipers. Seriously, are you really that stupid and/or lazy that you can't figure out when you need to turn on the wipers or to flip a little switch or turn a knob? The first thing I thought when I saw those was 'great, just one more thing that can break'.

A close runner up would have to be the heated windshield washer fluid tank. I've often driven in -30 F or colder weather and not once had the windshield washer fluid freeze up on me, not that you really need it in those temperatures. The only possible application I could see would be clearing a frosted over windshield as often happens when first starting up. Is an ice scraper really that hard to use?

What happens once they start wiping, does the driver still have to crank the speed up, or does it sense the degree of downpour as well? Also, I haven't heard of the heated fluid tank (it seems like a feature that would malfunction and generate a recall).

I remember when the new remodled VW bug came out it had a little built in vase to put flowers in on the dashboard. I don't know if they still put this in those cars, but either way I think it's pretty weird and useless!

That steering wheel thingy.

Why don't they just put laser/optical sensors on the front to keep the car between those painted colored lines on each side of the lane, a motion sensor to keep distance from the car in front and to avoid pedestrians, and then interface it to GPS to change roads at the right places?

I keep on having flashbacks from the 80s about a car that when you grabbed the handle to open it it would trigger the feul injection. I was a kid and remember thinking that was weird.

A few years ago there was an ad that proclaimed the car to be "the first with a mp3-CD player included standard". For those who need to buy a specific car rather that go to a place like Car Toys.
