The more you keep them up and awake by you during this time the more of your personality etc will rub off on them in the latter of there life.

Five years old people. My 8 and 10 year old go to bed at 8:30. A five year old should be in bed no later than 7:30 (this is a kindergartender).

That depends on if the child is in kindergarten and what time mom and dad have to get up in the morning. Every child is different. My 2 year old goes to bed at 10PM because I work evenings and my husband works days. Its the only way we both get some sleep is if he goes to bed at 10. Then he usually gets me up at 0830 so I get at least 6 hours.

When I was TEN I used to go to bed at 7.30 and read a book until I went to sleep. In the summer hols, we were allowed to play out on the light nights until around 8.30 - 9pm (same at weekends or to watch a later film). So A FIVE year old, who, after all, is still only a tiny human, should be in bed 7 to 7.30pm I guess (4 hours after school finishes) to give mum and Dad their time. Imagine otherwise Mum and Dad trying to watch a film before they turned in and had work the next morning, if a FIVE year old was still running around. I'm not a parent, it's just my view.

The need ten or eleven hours of sleep at that age, so they need to be in bed ten or eleven hours before they have to be up in the morning.

My son like to have about 10 hrs of sleep and so we had to get up at 6:30am so he was in bed by 8:30pm. +5
