Is there a way to tell how many answers you need in a given category to become an expert.

It only takes one. It all depends on the amount of points you get. For instance, I am an expert in Dr Laura, and I only answered one question that got highly marked

To become a category expert you don't need the most answers, but the most points. When you open a category you will see a user who is the category expert. It will tell you how many points they have scored in that category. To become the new category expert you need to surpass that point score.

You could answer one question and get enough points to be an expert. I am an expert in a load of TV shows I have never heard of. My boss would be delighted to know I am an expert in Crime Scene Investigation, since I am in the legal field. I do not think i will tell him it is the TV show

You need to have more points in at least 5 questions than the current category expert. If there is no expert you need at least 25 points in 5 questions.
