Most likely, the electronics in the external drive that translate the USB interface to the hard drive (probably SATA) is failing. A very simple check would be to buy a replacement external case (about $20) and move the drive to that chassis. If it works, problem solved. If not, then it's possible that the USB connection on the computer or the USB cable is bad. When you buy the external drive, if it doesn't come with an additional cable, you might want to pick one up. Finally, try different USB ports on your computer and if the drive is USB 2.0, I would recommend that you plug it into a USB 2.0 port and not a USB 1.1 port.

When I type my cursor will jump, skipping to other places or in the middle of other words just typed. What causes this and how do I stop it?

You're reading USB external harddrive says "Delayed Write Failed", and USB 3G dongle constantly disconnects...some days, others it works fine. I've tried Microsoft and Google but neither seem to answer my question, i've tried what I have found but it hasn't helped!

Well it's not my harddrive, it's a mates I borrowed to put all my data on so I could re-install XP because it kept restarting randomly all day. The USB's were the dodgy before I re-installed XP aswell. I only have USB 1.1, and so does he and it works fine on his, and works fine on mine in safe mode.
I have 2 USB ports on the motherboard, and 4 on a card and they all do the same. If re-installing XP and formatting the hardrive doesn't work what the hell is wrong?
And I am using the original cables for both the harddrive and 3G dongle.
When the internet goes, the light stays on the dongle but has 0kbits/s, and when i press disconnect, and then re-connect it says "Bla Bla Bla connection cannot be started because the port has closed" (That's a rough translation because I live in Spain with spanish dongle) and I have to pull it out and plug it back in.
The hardrive works fine normally aslong as I don't...use it (transfer data or browse contents)
