  • Depends if he is in with other fish. My Mom has a betta in a 30 gallon tank with other fish (other then another betta of course). But she just feeds everyone the same fish food, and the betta eats it too, and he is doing fine, and it is flake food.
  • I kept a Betta in a tank with different kinds of fish and he ate regular flake food. He did fine.
  • Wow, what an amazing question and timely. I just picked up my very first Beta yesterday and the guy gave me Top Fin Betta bits. However, I fed him some Hikari Tropical micro wafers and Prince went right for the wafers and killed em. So I guess I'm really not answering your question about the flakes. Maybe you can get by on just a few flakes and go get the bits. Remember to condition the water if you're not using spring water and put in the oxygen pellet. The directions also said to wait 24 hours for the water to be room temperature. Good luck
  • My sister had a betta for 4 years, and fed him flakes. He lived for 4 years! The only reason he died is because of old age.
  • Either is fine. I had one beta that refused to eat the flakes, so I fed him only pellets. The other beta I had would eat the flakes. Each lived over 3 years, so whatever you (and the beta) prefer should be fine.
