It's only annoying when the weather sucks. I hate pumping my own gas when it's raining, snowing, or freezing. Other than that, I don't mind it.

To me, it seems like the only time I need gas is when the weather is bad. So, I guess it does annoy me. I don't even know of a gas staion where they pump it for you. I am in Louisiana.

No. I have had to stop at gas stations in New Jersey, and I think it's kind of weird having full service. There's some full service places in Western Maryland and Pennsylvania too. I think they should all go self service. I think we can handle it.
-
Wow!!! You guys can't put petrol in your car alone?! That's great! In the UK, we are trusted enough to do that, but I'd rather someone did it for me.
-
No I think its kind of annoying when I go to AC that I can't pump my own.
-
Not at all. Why would I mind getting out of the car and stretching a little bit?
-
In the U K you pay about 20pence a litre more at places that put the gas in for you That works out at well over a dollar extra a gallon
-
It only gets annoying when the guy at the next pump forgets to put out his cigarette. I have to explain to my little girl that he's not Torch from the Fantastic Four.
-
Its o.k. except when it is very cold, with a freezing wind and the meter is slow.
-
NO. Usually use pay at pump as well so I don't have to go in the store. And I really like it now that lots of convience stores leave their pumps on after they close so you can zip in, pump your own and zip out.
-
Naw, here in NC we arn't treated like children to honestly make a LAW that you can't pump your own gas. I would rather do it my self, I would feel bad to have anyone else do it for me, I am more then capable to doing it.
-
I go to NJ because the gas is cheaper than where I live. I like having someone stand out in the cold and do it. When it isn't cold, I would not mind pumping it myself.
-
Goodness... I didn't know there were places where pumping your own gas was illegal. I didn't even know there were still places around in the US that you DIDN'T have to pump your own gas. Everything around where I live (North Texas) is either 100% self service, or if there is an attendant, they probably would rather you do it yourself anyway. In my case, I pay at the pump, so I'd sure prefer to do it myself. (But I am old enough to remember the "Gomer Pyle" type attendants.)

I am glad that New Jersey has that law -- that attendants must pump the gas and you can't pump your own. Here's why: -- in pump-your-own states, all people are at risk of being robbed, sexually assaulted, and/or killed late at night when there is no one in the gas station but the pumps are still on. A cousin of mine, a strong and healthy man in his early 30's, was murdered two years ago because of this. -- in pump-your-own states, drivers with disabilities are SUPPOSED to be able to honk and get someone from the station to come out and pump for them. IF they come out at all, they are slow and crabby and take FOREVER because they resent doing it and are afraid that people inside the station will shoplift things. This means drivers with disabilities really can't count on getting gas at all, except at a few stations where people know them. -- you-can't-pump laws create entry-level jobs for unskilled or low-skilled people. Every low-skill and no-skill job created benefits everyone in the state, by reducing the number of people who might otherwise be on welfare, and by giving them experience that might lead to better jobs later. I'd rather pay a few pennies extra per gallon for that (and for the convenience of having the gas pumped for me) than pay a whole lot of extra dollars at tax time. -- gas station attendants are safer than drivers who want to show off or be stubborn by refusing to put out their cigarettes before they pump. -- finally, yes, it is annoying to pump your own gas, especially: ......if you are dressed up for work or a special occasion ......or if you are pregnant and shouldn't risk exposing yourself and the fetus to fumes ......or if you are not fully disabled, but hampered by arthritis or weakness ......or if you have a car full of kids (your own or a carpool) and can't control them from outside the car while you are pumping the gas or running into the little building to pre-pay. I support the New Jersey law, and wish all states had it.

I'm from PA and moved to NJ (for reasons I won't go into). I HATE not being able to pump my own gas. What a stupid law. Pumping gas is so easy and you can do it so fast yourself, yet I'm forced to wait and wait for some guy to notice me and drag himself over...then wait AGAIN once the tank is full for him to return and finish. And you NJ people have no idea that those attendants are overfilling your tank just to round off the cost to the next dollar. You sit blindly in your car with no idea what the guy is up to, then just pay him whatever he asks. I would so much rather jump out, slap the credit card in, fill it, grab the receipt and go. Spending 10 minutes in a gas station waiting just plain sucks.
