Is there a famous artist who disliked a painting he/she created but was very successful with it? (what was the painting also?)

    I know a story that works the other way around. Man Ray became famous for his photographs, but he always wanted to be accepted as a painter. He even published an essay entitled "Photography is Not Art".
    Alberto giacometti also wanted to be seen as much as a painter as a sculptor, only the public preferred his sculptures most of the time.

    Sure look at the success of da Vinci. The amount of commissions he actually finished is surely a reflection of his dissatisfaction with his work.
