My TV has "rabbit ears", is there any similar type of device out there to improve reception without having to install an antenna on my roof?

The solution to your problem may be as simple as changing the type of antenna. Assuming that Dish, cable androoftop antennas are out of the question, here's your options.
    1) Buy an amplified rabbit ear set or non-traditional design of set-top antenna to increase your range.
    2) Buy a 'carrier wave' antenna modulator. This device is a little box that plugs into your electrical socket and uses your house's wiring as an antenna! There's a company in Roanoke, VA that sells them, but I don't remember their name.
    3) If you have an attic, you can install many rooftop antennas in the attic with a little amplifier, point in the right direction and you're good to go. This will NOT work with a satellite dish, by the way.
