See http://siegrist.us/?p=182 and http://www.jjkent.com/articles/thumb-rings-literature-history.htm Seems to me, it's one of a couple of things, and may or may NOT have anything to do with "power", but may have to do with the size of the ring, in general. 1) In the past, women wore the wedding rings of their husbands who went to war or had died on their thumbs. This could still be being done. 2) They just like the look.
