No country has the right to impose its VALUES on another country, but sometimes this just happens when a country participates in Genocide and other lovely activities. I really hope you're not trying to turn this into a "Was it right to go to Iraq" thing...

Good question, and I would have to say that no country has the right to impose its laws on another nation just like I have no right to tell my neighbour how to run their house... however we do have a responsibility to act when the parent in house #3 is abusing their children. In the same sense we have a moral obligation to act according to our moral values. If a nation murders people for being homosexual, we should take a stand - because if we don't it will continue. Some people might complain and say that standing up for basic moral values is not right, because all our moral values are relative (aka. there are no moral truths and all morals are a social construct) - but I disagree with that concept. I also disagree with the notion that we should just stand by and watch while something immoral is happening. If someone is being raped in the street, are you going to use your moral compass and say that it is wrong and do something about it... or are you going to walk on by? Prior to jumping the gun, it is *essential* to learn all sides of a story and gain some good understanding of what is going on.

They don't have the right do do so unless in doing so they are upholding their written laws or constitutions etc. However, that said, it happens all the time. And each country's citizens do it also. We expect foreigners to speak our language, understand our laws and customs and behave like us. In doing so, we also expect them to let their own language and customs go and when they don't we label them as being different, wrong, strange and our ignorance driven fear leads us to become suspicious and angry. We also stereotype people and take on a 'them' and 'us' mentality.

No not as a rule of thumb but then the world cannot stand by and watch genocide either . It is not one country it is the United Nations that is supposed to impose its will. It just goes to show what a useless waste of money and time it is, when One or two countries have to take on their work for them.
