  • Why do you need to know? If they are red and sore, you should treat them by cleaning the area with rubbing alcohol to reduce any chance of infection, and take out all earrings, unless you have a gold stud in them already- then its ok to keep that one in as the ear will heal around the hole ok. Just keep twirling the stud as you pour alcohol around it so that the hole heals cleanly and the stud doesnt get stuck
  • You downsized, so that's the first step. If it's not swollen and very red and leaking pus, it's probably not infected. Use saline solution to soak it in for a few weeks, and give it 6 months before trying to stretch it again. When it's no longer sore, do oil massages to increase stretchiness and break down scar tissue. Don't use alcohol because it's too drying, don't turn or twist your jewelry because that just causes more irritation, and there are better metals to use than gold, such as implant grade titanium or steel.
