Help answer this question below.

How to you topdress your roses when you at the same time you want to put compost on the ground? I want to add coffee grounda, banana peels, eggshells, etc. So, I would think that the thick mulch would prevent this.

When I add compost to my roses, I simply scrape back some of the mulch, and add the compost, then spread the mulch back over the top. If you're adding coffee grounds, simply mix them into the compost. If you add fresh egg shells, be sure to crush them first.
