Does getting a tattoo on your side torso on the ribs hurt?? i need to know im going after work today to go get it done and im nervous as hell!

It is one of the most painful areas to get it, other than the foot. There are a lot of bones in your ribs (duh) The more bones, the more pain.

No it doesn't. I was 17 and got a tattoo on my side. didn't hurt at all. if you can deal with a lil bit of pain then you can deal with that.

I have one, and it's not that bad. It is really more irritating that painful. Make sure that when you have your arm over your head that you don't have the skin covering your ribs stretched too tight... When you relax, it will distort the tat otherwise.

Can I stick my bossy neck out, and say "don't do it" ? You are not just permanently marking yourself, but other selves 10, 20, even 50 years in the future. Can you be sure that they or those they are involved with won't find your current choices embarrassing - or even humiliating ? You just can't know, can you ? Cancel the appointment, please, for their sakes.

Not really. It all depends on your tolerance for pain. I have 3 large tattoos on the side torso. Where it hurt the most was when they got towards the arm pit and the ribs. Getting a tattoo to me feels like scratching on sun burn in other areas it felt worse. For me it wasn't bad. Plus it looks AWESOME there!

yeah i had my first tattoo when i was 15 and im a girl so that didnt hurt, you will be fine just think of something else while your in the chair x

Can i just point out how irritating it was to read the ignorant post by nobodymuch! If someone wants to be with you, they want to be with all of you and when you have a tattoo it becomes part of you, so if they are ridiculous enough to be embarrassed of it or you, then they really aren't the one for you. Secondly, if you decide to have a tattoo, then you will have thought about what you are getting and it will mean something to you. Whether you are 17 or 71 it will still mean the same thing to you. It will also be a reminder at 71 that you didn't live a life as dull as nobodymuch. Please do not take this person's advice!

i have an appointment to get a tattoo on tuesday on my ribs. and to be honest, for a while i was wondering if any significant other i have later in life would appreciate me doing this. but then i realized that itd really only be seen when i'm in a swim suit or in my underwear. and i really want to mark this time in my life. i want a reminder of it. sooooo if they dont appreciate the hard times and the good times in my past as much as i do, then they dont like me because those time have made me who i am. screw them. plus i just wont tell them until we already have a commitment :) i am really excited to get this tattoo. and no one can talk me out of it.

maybe commitment is the wrong word. i meant its not the first thing i'm going to tell people. hopefully by the time i would tell someone about it, it wouldnt alter their opinion. i'm not the kind of person to share intimate things with people when its not safe to. so yeah, i'd probably wait until i felt comfortable with them and our relationship was in a safer zone. im sorry you think i'm an idiot. i think judging someone just based off of one thing they say is not very smart, though. maybe we've just had different experiences which lead us to make different decisions. sorry you may not agree with mine.

i thinkin bout gettin a tattoo on my side it goes from just under my breast to my hips. i am reli nervouse and i lookin up how much it hurts but nearly every answer i read or find says that it looka good so they dnt regret it so . . . i'm goin for it i cnt wait i'll put up with the pain and feel good for it after cos it'l look well good. and dont worry bout wot n e one else thinks do it for ur self if u like it get it neva care bout wot ova ppl think cos if u do u'l end up doin nufin.

I Just had a tattoo from under my boob to my groin , at first it was okay with just the lining , but when they shade it in or fill in bits , it starts to sting ALOT . . but its bearable , just have to deal with the pain , afterall we are the one that want the tattoos right :)
