• no i haven't taken my GED because i havent been a citizen that long, but have been living here illegally for a few years, also i'm moving back to mexico in 3 or 4 months so theres not really a point of getting one now. nmabey when i come back. i never went to high school because at the time i was living here illegally, than i was moved back and never really went back to school.

• Papito, you sound like you might be in your 20s at most. Do you want to stay here? Do you are your relatives/friends have any connections? My friend turned himself in and asked what he had to do. I don't know where they came up with 6 months, but they said he had to stay in Mexico for 6 months, then come back. It was in writing. He did and now he's here. Do you want to marry anyone? I have no ideas on any of these rules, I just know some people can bypass them and it's all legal.

• great guess, i'm 24. but don't worry i'm legal now. i do have a lot of family here and they are also my co-workers so i'm hooked up pretty well here. when i gained citizenship my brothers helped me out a lot at getting me here, at the time i was still in mexico. like your friend i had to stay there for a bit. to be honest i like america but not as much as i love mexico. it's home and i'm pretty excited to go back. but i definitely will return, mabey in a year or 2.

• You have dual-citizenship? In college, I was with a group CIASP/FASE where we met with Mexicans and helped out in the ejidos. I didn't want to leave. For holding a baby for a long truck drive with the padre, the mother gave me a live chicken. I loved holding the baby and it was enough. Even in her absolute poverty, she was generous. I'll never forget.

• yea, i have one but i may just cancel it and live in mexico. i wouldn't quite call it poverty, i mean a lot of us are poor no doubt but it's not that bad. our culture is extremely respectful and religious, so growing up we learned to respect everyone, even your enemies. good times

• Glad you liked that! And I was serious about the Harvard thing. When I went there, I had a work-study job at the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
  When I walked into the office for my job interview, I looked to my right and saw an application essay framed for permanent display.
  It was Helen Keller's application essay. She went into great detail about the challenges she faced, being both Deaf and blind, but explained that her teacher, Anne Sullivan, would be available to assist. (more)

• She was admitted to Radcliffe, and graduated summa cum laude.
  I don't know if her application essay is available online, but it's incredible reading. When she wrote it, she was just like everybody else, a teenager reaching for something that she worried about being able to reach.
  When you read that essay, knowing that she not only reached it, but grabbed on to it for everything it was worth -- and triumphed -- you can't help but be proud that this was something you're connected to, even remotely.

  His name's Bill Fitzsimmons, and he said, "To remind all of us that you find the most successful people in the most unlikely circumstances. It's a good thing for Admissions officers to keep in mind."

• Honestly? It's more the rule than the exception. I've worked in one way or another with all the admissions offices at the Ivy League schools. No matter how hard you try, you will not find a more idealistic group of people on the planet.

• I am stunned. I didn't realize the sacrifices I made directly contributed to Allison's achievements until you drew the line from point A to point B. You're right, the money goes to her and her baby sister.....for sleepovers that teach them peer relations, to school supplies, to extracurricular activities that build mind and soul. • No he was going to go to a real expensive school on a scholarship, they lost his papers. Had to hussle fast to get him into a state school at the last minute. But he likes it now. Might transfer in a year if they will give it back to him. Oldest is a career student. She loves school. 5th year of college. and my youngest is still in highschool.
  All three do great honor sociey and Deans list in college. They definately dont want to end up like me or their mother. LOL

• She is 11 now. She also won the contest for Georgia's 4-H club. Her artwork will be on all the 4-H club t-shirts! I plan on buying at least one extra so I can put it in her trunk. She will love seeing it one day when she is all grown up :)
