I got my first pair last year.

I don't have glasses or contacts, though I know I could use them, given my 20/200 left eye. Either way, the age thing varies greatly, and it is more about what your glasses or contacts (bifocals?) look like, ie, square or oval lenses and whatnot. In the end, one pair of glasses can make someone look like a nerd, while another can really add to their personality, maybe even to their reputation.

I got mine in my late 30's. It was pretty hard to get used to them. I had to take them off to read, how dumb is that??? I don't think they had my perscription right. They still don't help with the close up reading, I have to put on a pair of reading glasses I bought at Target.

I started wearing bifocals at 44 or 45. That's about the average age in India at least, 40 to 45. In fact in Gujarati, my mother language, we call them 42's. For example: "The newspaper printing looks blurred; why don't they use better paper?" "Printings seems OK; you probably need 42's."
