I recommend getting rechargable batteries. They will be expensive at first, but use little power to charge so there isnt going to be a power bill increase.

There are two alternatives you could choose from.

    - As already mentioned you could purchase rechargeable batteries. Although these would be expensive at first, you could get many years of use out of them, providing they are used correctly (i.e. only charging them once they have completely 'run out' of power, rather than topping them up).

    - However, an alternative to rechargeable batteries, would be to purchase single use Lithium batteries,

These, should last much longer than normal alkaline cells, and are specifically designed to be used in either High Drain applications (like digital camera's, flashes etc.) or in Low Drain applications that need to last for long periods of time (like clocks, computer mice and keyboards, etc.)

    rechargeable NiMH, amazing stay power

Just don't put them in a smoke alarm or emergency flashlight, they don't hold the charge after a few months.

replace your all-singing, all dancing, wireless optical mouse and keyboard with the non-wireless, plug in the back of the computer kind that require no batteries at all.

You can get rechargeable batteries for cameras, they last quite a bit longer than normal batteries.
Guessing your keyboard and mouse are wireless, one easy way to decrease the number of batteries is to switch back to wired. If this is unsatisfactory then you could upgrade to a wireless mouse with a usb charging dock, not sure about the keyboard though, but find it strange the batteries run out so quickly.

I guess I'm swimming upstream here, but I find Alkaline duracells in bulk from CostCo give me the best value. Battery management of rechargeables can get to be a hassle.

Keep your batteries in the freezer. I don't know why, but for some reason it makes them last longer.

Rechargables are the way we went. You can also look for unused features on the camera to turn off when not in use such as the flash. The keyboard and mouse, I would replace, honestly. Those things were killing me financially so I replaced with corded versions. Good luck on your quest.

hey buddy, here is how to look after batteries for maximum lifetime.. I'm studying this stuff and this is what my teacher told me..
    1. Keep them topped up, do not let them fully discharge or even drop below 30% of capacity.
    2. once they reach full charge, stop charging
