  • 4x^2=8 x^2=8/4 x^2=2 x=[square root]2
  • Well, you see you have an unknown (x) and constant on the same side. So you have to get unknowns to one side, the constants to the other while keeping a balanced equation. So if you increase both sides by 8, you still have a balanced equation. Then perform the math to get the unknown by itself then solve for the unknown. Anytime a math problem comes home that I don't quite remember from 30 years ago I hit the internet with: "math 'name of the thing at the top of the page'" So in this case something like "math simplify equation" A lot of those were for software, but this one http://www.mathguide.com/lessons/Equations.html might be of some help. Once you find a help page of a format you like, bookmark it.
