It speaks poorly of the maturity of the voters.
I think it shows that the people as a whole are not mature enough to make decisions for themselves.
I kind of see it the way a household could be ran. Should we allow the children to vote on how they are parented? What kind of household will you have then?
I think what's missing is knowledgeable oversight. I believe a republic is more practical than a direct democracy for that reason. We elect (generally) well educated and experienced individuals to make important decisions for us. In return they ration our earnings to where it is most needed and/or deserved.
It speaks poorly of the peoples wisdom in California and of having a barbarian (Conan) for your leader.
Possibly. Without knowing more about what's been voted for and against I wouldn't say that, there are other factors that could be at play.
CA. is corrupt..its main issue are the ILLEGALS there ,sucking it way beyond BROKE....its not a democratic state...its the most undisciplined, out of control state in the United States....it has to have way too much , UNJUST, UNFAIR, POLITICAL CORRECTNESS....in other words, "they are screwed"..."unfixable"...unless they clean up the illegal aliens...and become fair to the Legal Californians,Americans....:)
The Founding Fathers knew that direct democracies don't work well. That's why we were given a Republic. The problem with CA's initiative system is that ANYONE can write an initiative, and get it on the ballot. There are no checks or balances to keep contradictory and self-serving initiatives from locking the legislature into an unrecoverable tailspin.
I'd appreciate any answers to my related question

You're reading California's powerful ballot initiative laws make it nearly a direct democracy, yet it's financially in a terrible mess. Does this speak poorly of direct democracy?
