  • yes i agree with you 100% lot of lives have been ruined by the practice in question
  • Our guidelines are to not leap into surgery but just offer advice and to try and wait until the people involved are over 18 years old...
  • I am not sure. You become a parent and someone tells you we don’t know if your baby is a boy or a girl,”, what do you tell everyone when they ask what did you have? It is hard to think of your babies sexual prefernce when they are born, that is suppossed to be decided already. so now a doctor, wants to know what you want to do???? You have no clue, so you want to learn about it. Does the operation need to be performed at an early age?? Does making the decision, at an early age help the child or hurt them?? Then you have feelings of guilt and shame the child will feel because he/she doesnt know until they are older, what "they are".
  • If my child were born that way I would take no action. I would want them to decide for themselves. It would be awkward while they were growing but I would't want to make such a huge decision which they might hold agianst me later in life. Even children are their own people.
  • When my kids were born (1965 and 1972) it would have been unthinkable in North Dakota not to do the surgery!!! The parents probably would have had child protective services involved and someone other than the parent would have made the decision on which sex to go with. It would have been considered medical neglect not to do the surgery. I think the parents need to make a decision at birth. You would have a horribly maladjusted child if they had to make their own decision of which sex or no surgery at age 18. (next paragraph) Does your research give numbers? I just feel there is not enough research done on this. Also, what Rx can be used to point the child in the right direction regarding sex? And, can testing now be done that will indicate which way the body will produce hormones or testosterone? And, can testing now be done to identify the receptors at an early age? Too many questions for there to be a solid answer!!!!!!!!!
