  • They have those in FL (Space Coast); they stand for Air Patrolled or policed Highway. A pilot times how long it takes for a vehicle to move from one mark on the road (in this case a plane) to another and then calculates its speed.
  • I have seen those markings on US Highway 78 (AKA Corridor X / Future I-22) in Mississippi. I drive that road frequently between Winfield, AL and Memphis, TN. I too have wondered what they were for. I wasn't able to find anything online; I am going to contact Mississippi DOT ( http://www.mdot.state.ms.us/ ) tomorrow. Phone number for general information is (601) 359-7001, I'll post what I find. EDIT: I called MDOT and they said that those markings were formerly used by the Highway Patrol for speed detection. They are not used anymore, however.
