    If we get into programming:
    mov - move
    int - interupt
    sub - subtract
    add - add
    mul - multiply
    div - divide
    cmp - compare
jne - jump if not equal
jnz - same as jne (this one is more correct)
jna - jump if not above
jnb - jump if not below
    xor - exclusive OR logic
    and - AND logic
    nop - no operation
    fld - load into fpu
pop - pop off of top of stack
    jmp - unconditional jump

There may be more that I could be forgetting.

    IBM comes to mind...

File extensions have generally 3 letters, like BMP, JPG, GIF, WAV, DOC, XLS, MDB, AVI, etc...

On this page you can find some "list of computing and IT abbreviations" with their meanings. Many of them have 3 letters:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_abbreviations

    Here an excerpt:
AIX — Advanced Interactive Executive (IBM Unix)
ALU — Arithmetic and Logical Unit
    AMD — Advanced Micro Devices
    API — Application Programming Interface
ASP (MS ASP) — Active Server Pages
    AVI — Audio Video Interleaved
    BBS — Bulletin Board System
    bin — binary
    bit — binary digit
    BMP — Basic Multilingual Plane
    bps — bits per second
BSD — Berkeley Software Distribution (Unix variant)
(those were only among the letters A and B).
