• Color, smell, or taste can determine if it is rotten. If by "bad" you mean tough or overly starchy, you test it by peeling back a little of the husk and stick your fingernail into one of the kernels. If it readily squirts juice then it is still good. If it is thick and milky then most of the sugar has turned to starch and it will not be as tasty (Not harmful to your health just not as tasty.)
