    Well I like all the "love and understanding" answers, but the trouble is that mostly we don't know how to achieve such a state in ourselves, let alone infect the world with it.

    Dreams are a funny thing: we're always trying to achieve some state which represents those dreams... we go looking for love, we seek truth, we envision peace: but mostly we just sit around and hope that someday these things will fall in our lap somehow. When we're not idly hoping, we're engaging in questionable arguments about "someday" -- someday our Prince will come, someday our savior will come, etc. -- somebody else will come along and save the day, make it all good. (It's always someone other than ourselves, of course.)

    But what we lack is any sense of POWER to make any of this happen -- we don't see our own ability and responsibility, nor do we understand these values and our own nature sufficiently to untangle ourselves from the web of doubts and confusion that render us ineffective.

    In order to recover our own power to effect change, we have to first understand what is rendering us powerless, and that involves awareness -- and LOTS of it. The mechanisms which tie us up in knots are intrinsic to the way we think about ourselves and life, and only clear insight into these mechanisms offers any chance of slicing through the clutter of beliefs, attitudes, stuck memories, fear, greed, anger, and confusion.

    When the confusion is illuminated with sufficient awareness, a funny thing happens -- it starts to fade -- we become able to see our own structure, and therein lies the keys to freedom, and the power to make a difference.

    So yes, the world needs all that good stuff: peace, and love, and understanding, and unity, and justice, and compassion, and wisdom. But before any of that can happen, the world needs awareness.

    Will. People profuse to have a "God given Right to it" Yet no one really uses it. They behave in a sedated manor. Will power conjures up something hard and difficult, Effort.
